Emmanuel’s research deals mainly with nautical archaeology and history. He dedicated a book about the load capacity of the Greek and Roman ships which was published in 2016 (Phortia. His study of the ancient ships is based both on written sources, iconographical evidence and shipwrecks. He is conducting land and underwater excavations and surveys in France (Allonnes, Port-Vendres) and in Israel (Caesarea and Tiberias).

Emmanuel is currently directing the South Tiberias Harbor Project and is also heading the PANAV project about nautical heritage.
