Dr. Shirra Freeman received her PhD in Geography and Environmental Studies in 2010 from the University of Haifa. She studies the linkages between human activities and the natural environment and marine ecosystems.

Dr. Freeman specializes in economics applied to nature based services, aquaculture, wastewater, marine microplastics, and marine and coastal zone management.
