Dr, Edna J. Stern received her PhD at the Department of Maritime Civilization at the University of Haifa, where she is also currently a Teaching Associate. She is a Senior Research Archaeologist at the Archaeological Research Department of the Israel Antiquities Authority, and an Associated Researcher, ArAr Laboratory “Archaeology & Archaeometry”, CNRS Lyon University.

Her research focus is Crusader and Mamluk material culture in Israel, especially ceramic finds from ‘Akko, Safed, Yafo, Ramla and other sites. These ceramics were studied in the context of their maritime trade and distribution, as well as in relation to ceramic assemblages from other Mediterranean sites. Collaborating with archaeologists and scientists from Israel and abroad, she participated in research using scientific analyses to further understand production, distribution, and cultural attribution of the ceramics. She also investigates the archaeology of sugar production, urban and rural sites, and Crusader food and food habits. Excavated in ‘Akko and its region and beyond Israeli archaeology, she also has studied medieval Cypriot pottery.
