Dr. Maayan Cohen

Dr. Maayan Cohen earned her MA (cum laude) and PhD from the Department of Maritime Civilizations at the University of Haifa. Her MA research was an archaeometallurgical study of the metal finds and concretions from the early 19th century Akko Tower Wreck. The results assisted in identifying the objects and their manufacturing processes, and suggested a dating of the ship. Maayan continued her studies gaining her doctorate in ancient ship research and seamanship in antiquity. During her research, she directed six underwater excavation seasons on the 8th century CE Maʻagan Mikhael B shipwreck.

Maayan recently finished the year-long postdoctoral program of Mimshak – a competitive science and policy fellowship, founded by the Israel Society of Ecology and Environmental Sciences.

She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures, Tel Aviv University, working with Prof. Oren Tal and a research associate at the Leon Recanati Institute for Maritime Studies, University of Haifa.
