Dr. Yuval Baruch

Dr. Yuval Baruch is the Head of the Archaeological Division in the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). Dr. Baruch received his PhD in 2009 from the Hebrew University. His main research interests include the archaeological and cultural research of Ancient Jerusalem, the Temple Mount and its walls, the archeology and historical geography of southern Judea\ Daroma\ Idumea in late Antiquities, the Jewish community in Rome during late antiquity, and maintaining the sanctity of places in archaeological research. 

In recent years he has been involved in many digital humanities projects including establishing and managing the e-journal Hadashot Arkheologiyot, leading and managing a project for advancing photogrammetry documentation in salvage excavations, and the development and implementation of an IAA comprehensive internet scientific archaeological publication portal. Dr. Baruch is also involved in the Shalem Project – initiating and managing a holistic project for the exhibition, preservation, and research of ancient Jerusalem’s sites, and he is also the initiator and founder of the Center for the Study of Ancient Jerusalem, aimed at promoting several publications (monographs) of excavations conducted in ancient Jerusalem.
