Irwin M. Jacobs Lab for Cyber Archaeology
The Irwin M. Jacobs Lab for Cyber Archaeology was founded thanks to a generous gift from Mr. Jacobs. The laboratory includes includes powerful computers, cutting-edge VR technology, and scanning hardware. The laboratory is used for teaching, documenting, and research. It covers a wide range of GIS, photogrammetry, and 3D scanning and also aims to develop an innovative data curation system that will serve the entire archaeological community of the School of Archaeology and Maritime Civilizations at the University of Haifa.
Currently, students and researchers employ the HP Structured Light Scanner 3 Pro with dual cameras and an automatic turntable to produce 3D models of archaeological artifacts and ecofacts. These models are then processed by various graphics software, such as GigaMesh 3D, to create exact profiles for publications.
The laboratory is operated by Mr. Yoav Bornstein.
