Prof. Patricia Sibella

Prof. Patricia Sibella graduated in Anthropology, Prehistory and Ethnology at Sorbonne University. After participating in several land and underwater excavations in France, on behalf of the National Center for Scientific Research and the DRASSM (Department of Underwater Archaeological Research), she spent several summers in Greece working for the Hellenic Institute of Marine Archaeology. Associate member of the GREMMO (Research and Studies Group on the Mediterranean and the Middle East, France) and the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, she later joined The Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) at Texas A&M University (USA) as a Fulbright recipient and Visiting scholar. Her tenure was then extended and she worked both at INA and its Bodrum Research Center for a few years. Appointed as an Associate professor at Bordeaux University (France), she has been an active member on a large number of underwater excavations: Uluburun and Kumluca in Turkey, Tantura Lagoon, Akko and Ma’agan Michael to name a few.
Her main interests are maritime trade in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, amphoras as well as ship construction.
